39 Things That Have Gotten Me Through This Pregnancy
One day, all this will make me laugh. I'm sure of it.
Walking the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir loop
When I found out I was pregnant I told myself I was going to walk 10k steps a day. This is of course laughable now, but at the beginning there, in the dead of winter, I was crushing the Central Park Reservoir loop almost daily. It was a lovely mental and physical break.
Chobani Yogurt drinks
Ah. So right around the time when it got so cold I actually couldn’t do my 10k steps a day, I also started to feel like absolute crap. Probably around the 8 week mark I discovered these Chobani Protein yogurt drinks that I would choke down in the morning and they helped get some nutrients in me when I wanted to vomit. Had to be the mixed berry vanilla flavor only. I bet if I had one now I’d recoil.
Top Ramen
Every day around 2:30pm I would start to panic (this is in that incredibly bleak week 7 to week 13ish time) because a wave of nausea would come that I could hardly handle. I knew I needed to eat to feel better but everything sounded disgusting. The only thing I could make myself was Top Ramen. It came together quickly, it was warm, it was bland, and then I’d try to just take a nap.
McDonalds on demand (Uber Eats Delivery)
Sometimes something would happen where I would be out in the world trying to be normal and suddenly I’d feel so bad I’d have to leave immediately. I had learned that was typically a sign I needed to eat something, even though of course as discussed above, nothing sounded good. The only thing to do at this time was order McDonald’s on my way home, and have a cheeseburger, small fries, 4 piece nuggets with ranch, and a crispy diet coke meet me at my front door. Usually I ate it while crying a little, but it worked every time for whatever reason.
